Footballer 'tried to rape girl'
Junior Agogo
The player stayed at the hotel with team-mates
Bristol Rovers striker Junior Agogo attempted to rape a 16-year-old girl in the bathroom of his hotel, a court has been told.

Sheffield Crown Court heard the 25-year-old was staying with team-mates at a Doncaster hotel when the alleged incident took place on 7 May last year.

The prosecution says the waitress was forced into the player's bathroom in Room 101 where she was assaulted.

Mr Agogo, of St David's Mews, Bristol, denies one charge of attempted rape.

'Held by wrist'

Sarah Wright, prosecuting, told the jury the girl was walking past the room where Mr Agogo was staying, when she saw the footballer standing in the doorway dressed in a pair of shorts.

The teenager recognised the player because she had served the team dinner earlier that night.

Ms Wright told the court Mr Agogo addressed the waitress by her name, which was on a badge, and then "took her by the wrist and drew her into the room".

She said: "She [the girl] was rather taken aback and didn't know what was happening.

"She was drawn into the room. He had his arm around her and he ushered her straight into the bathroom.

Another man

"The defendant then closed the bathroom door behind them and pushed [the girl] to one end."

Ms Wright told the jury that Mr Agogo continued to assault the girl despite her "protestations".

The court heard the girl, who is now 17, eventually left the room after Mr Agogo asked her to come back later.

Ms Wright said the girl told police there was another man in Room 101 at the time of the attack in the bathroom.

She said Mr Agogo later told police that the teenager had to come to the room to deliver a room service order and he had "kissed, cuddled and fondled her bottom over her clothing".

Ms Wright said: "He maintained that was the extent of any contact he'd had."

The trial continues.
