Bus route project just the ticket
Bus passengers
Passengers will feel the benefits of the improvements
Bus passengers are set to benefit from 2m of improvements to services - including a new fleet of vehicles, highway works and safety features.

The project has created a so-called "quality bus corridor" between the towns of Rotherham in South Yorkshire and Worksop in Nottinghamshire.

Bus firms, local councils and transport chiefs have all been involved in providing the boost for services.

Rotherham councillor Gerald Smith said passengers would enjoy better services.

'Improved economy'

Improvements along the route include upgrades for all 117 bus stops and shelters, enhanced seating, lighting, level access for boarding, litter bins and bus timetable information.

To help passengers get to bus stops easier dedicated crossing points and footways have been introduced and kerbs have been raised to aid wheelchair and pushchair access.

Terry Butler of Nottinghamshire County Council said: "This initiative... will inevitably help fulfil the county council's aim of improving the local economy."

Bus operators Stagecoach and First have also been involved in the project.

Stagecoach has introduced a 1m dedicated fleet of new vehicles along the route.
