Mixed pleas follow G8 protests
Two men have appeared before Sheffield magistrates for public order offences after disturbances at a meeting of G8 home affairs and justice ministers.

Gary Lawson, 33, from Sheffield, pleaded guilty and was fined 25.

Michael Hawarth, 31, from Sheffield, was released on conditional bail to appear before magistrates on 28 July.

On Thursday morning, Mr Hawarth was arrested again on suspicion of assaulting a police officer. He was bailed pending further enquiries.

Broken bone

A 17-year-old boy has also been charged with public order offences and bailed to appear at Sheffield Youth Court later this month.

The three were arrested during a protest on Wednesday evening as the ministers attended a civic reception in Sheffield.

A police officer suffered a broken bone in her hand during the scuffles near the Winter Garden.

Delegates from the world's richest nations are in Sheffield to discuss issues such as organised crime, attacking corruption in Africa and counter terrorism measures.
