Youngsters under 16 will be subject to the curfew

The one-month curfew starts this week in Firth Park when teenagers aged under 16 will be returned to their homes if found on the streets.

The estate is the fourth area in Sheffield to launch a crackdown on anti-social youths.

A police spokesman said: "We felt it was important to obtain this order following complaints from residents and reports of nuisance in the area."

The curfew is from 2100 to 0600 BST and police have the power to move on groups of two or more people.

Parental co-operation

City councillor Jan Wilson said the feedback from residents about similar schemes had been positive.

"This is not a short-term fix. We are looking at a long-term solution to make this a safe environment for all members of the community," she said.

"We would appeal to parents to co-operate with the police on this and ensure their children are not out unaccompanied on the streets after 9pm."

The area covered by the order is bordered by Firth Park Road, Bellhouse Road, Hatfield House Lane and Barnsley Road.
