Holidaymakers warned over taxis

The council warns passengers should only go in licensed taxis
A warning has been issued after holidaymakers complained of being stranded at the airport by a rogue taxi firm in Sheffield.

City council licensing officer Clive Stephenson said people had paid Aston Cars in advance but the firm had failed to collect them after their holiday.

He said Aston Cars was not a licensed taxi operator and the alleged business premises were boarded-up.

The council is now urging people to use properly licensed taxi companies.

Mr Stephenson said: "We have been told that a number of people have been left stranded at the airport and haven't been able to get their money back as yet.

"If people use this so-called taxi operator they could be at risk, as there is a serious possibility that drivers or vehicles are not licensed by the city council."
