A bishop has warned that voter apathy could lead to a far-right candidate winning a Yorkshire seat in the European Parliament. The Bishop of Sheffield, Jack Nicholls was addressing church members at the Earth Centre in Conisbrough.
Bishop Nicholls warned a low turnout at the Euro elections in June could be "a disaster".
He said Yorkshire is a target for the British National Party (BNP) which he described as a "fascist organisation".
Take a stand
The bishop continued by saying that the BNP "would undermine everything which we as Christians hold precious about the society in which we live."
Bishop Nicholls urged his audience to support his stand against the BNP.
"I urge you to return to your parishes and encourage everyone you know...to vote on 10 June.
"Far be it for me to tell you which party to vote for.
"But I am asking you not to vote BNP if you value all that is truly human in society."
