'Abusive' 62-year-old man evicted
A 62-year-old man who was abusive and insulting to his neighbours is to be evicted from his home in Rotherham.

Anthony Colley harassed local people and shopkeepers, Rotherham County Court was told.

A string of complaints were made to the police about his behaviour after he moved to Ryton Close in Maltby in December 2000.

Mr Colley has been told to quit his home and made the subject of an anti-social behaviour order (ASBO).

Last resort

Rotherham Council claims the action is a clear message that anti-social behaviour will not be tolerated.

Councillor Sue Ellis, who has responsibility for the anti-social action team, said: " I am pleased with the result, although we wish we hadn't had to get to this state of affairs.

"We have been working and doing everything we could to help Mr Colley not get into this position.

"Unfortunately he refused to co-operate with us at any level."

The five year ASBO decrees Mr Colley must not engage in conduct which "causes harassment, alarm or distress" to any person.

He must also not be abusive or insulting or enter the Day and Night store and the Co-operative supermarket in High Street, Maltby.

Mr Colley did not attend the court hearing.
