Clean up for 'rubbish street'
JCB clearing rubbish
It will take two weeks to clear the rubbish
What is claimed to be the worst place for fly tipping in Sheffield is being cleaned up.

Ardmore Street in Darnall is a dead end road full to the brim with rubbish.

Thousands of tyres, numerous gas canisters, fridges and even half a van have spilled out of a scrap yard.

There is about 70 tons of waste to clear and the clean up, which is being carried out by Sheffield City Council, will take about two weeks.

Tyres
The problem started with dumped tyres

Problems on Ardmore Street, which does not have any houses, began with two scrap traders who were dumping tyres.

They have been prosecuted and one of the owners has been sentenced to three months in jail.

Once the road is clear, the Environment Agency and the council will monitor the street so they can spot and prosecute anyone found dumping rubbish there.

Councillor Harry Harpham said: "The courts are as determined as the city council to prosecute those who dump their rubbish on our streets and this should make fly tippers think twice about dumping their rubbish so irresponsibly."
