Most people have followed airport advice to stay away |
Bristol Airport has halted all flights for a fourth day as UK airspace is affected by an Icelandic ash cloud. The air traffic control service (Nats) has extended its restriction on flights until at least 1900 BST on Monday. Bristol Airport is advising people to stay away and check with their flight operator before travelling. "We've still had a few customers arrive including some tourists to the area who haven't heard the news," an airport spokeswoman said. "The airport has done its best to help visitors to the West Country who didn't have internet access in their hotels so we've been helping them get access to computers and get them the latest information. "I've been working at the airport for 22 years now and I've never seen anything like this before. "The dust particles can damage jet engines and obviously safety has to be paramount." All non-emergency flights were grounded on Thursday as the cloud from an eruption in Iceland spread over the UK.
