The town is quieter than usual during the June festival |
Glastonbury Festival organiser Michael Eavis is inviting festival-goers to visit the town of Glastonbury to experience its "unique appeal". Mr Eavis has joined with Mendip District Council in encouraging everyone to consider a trip to the historic town. "It really does have its own unique appeal - it's colourful, entertaining and lively," he said. The event takes place eight miles from the town from June 25 to 29. A spokesperson for the council said the town is often quieter than usual in the days before and during the festival. King Arthur "I'd love people to come to Glastonbury town as it's such a wonderful place. If you aren't coming to the festival then come to Glastonbury during that weekend instead," said Michael Eavis. "We have got the traffic managed well now so it means that the roads are not jammed around Glastonbury. "I'm sure you'll be able to travel to the town easily, and you might even be able to hear some of the music in the distance if the wind's blowing in the right direction. "The shops and businesses in Glastonbury are so attractive and the people and atmosphere in the High Street is excellent - there really isn't anywhere else like it," he added. Glastonbury is famous for its links with King Arthur, Joseph of Arimathea and King Henry VIII.
