Scheme will make bogland wetter
More than 250,000 is to be spent making Exmoor's bogs wetter.

The project will restore some of the most remote and important wildlife areas in the national parkland and should see the return of wading birds.

Wooden dams with heather bales to soak up water have been built to reverse the effect of drainage channels.

"The bogs act as sponges in the uplands which feed the rivers and can prevent flooding in the lower reaches," said Dr David Smith of Exmoor Park.
