The T-shirt promotes other events in Glastonbury during 2006 |
Somerset charities will benefit from sales of a new 'not the Glastonbury Festival' T-shirt designed to promote other events in the town. Profits from the sales will be used to boost a scheme aimed at reducing crime in Glastonbury and will be given in grants to local groups in the town.
The T-shirt is also being sent to some of the big names who have performed at the festival so they can sign them.
The shirts will then be auctioned to raise more cash later in the year.
The Glastonbury Festival is taking a break in 2006 and is due to be staged next in 2007.
Ros Wilkins, area regeneration officer from Mendip District Council, said: "Michael has signed one and so has jazz star Jamie Cullum.
"We are delighted that Michael has given us his whole-hearted backing."
The wording on the T-shirts promotes other events in the town during 2006, including the Musical Extravaganza, Carnival, Tor Dance Festival, and the Children's Festival.
The production and distribution is being managed by Glastonbury Chamber of Commerce on behalf of Community Watch.
Edward Bowron, Manager of the Chamber of Commerce, said: "We are very pleased to be part of this project which will help promote Glastonbury and its businesses.
"We are using a UK produced, Oxfam approved T-shirt which is being printed by Arien Screenprint, part of the Excel Arien Ltd Group who are based in Cheddar."
