England and Bath rugby player Matt Perry is throwing his weight behind a campaign to inspire young men to register as bone marrow donors. The full-back hopes to persuade potential donors to attend a recruitment clinic at Bath's rugby club on Saturday 18 February.
The Anthony Nolan Trust wants men aged 18 to 35-years-old to register.
"I strongly encourage any person eligible to join as every individual is a potential lifesaver," said Mr Perry.
The charity says it urgently needs more young male donors because patients who are given cells by male donors experience fewer serious complications after the transplant.
Memphis Powell who is 16-months-old and has leukaemia needs an urgent stem cell transplant.
His mother, Laura, said: "To save our son we would like to encourage more individuals to come forward and register with the Anthony Nolan Trust at the Bath Rugby Club event."
Since 1974, the Anthony Nolan Trust has saved the lives of more than 4,000 people who have not been able to find a bone marrow match from a relative.
