U-turn for trust over cancer drug
Michael and Vanessa Kyte
Vanessa Kyte believes the drug could prolong her life
A woman who is desperate for revolutionary breast cancer treatment has been told her local primary care trust will fund her treatment.

Vanessa Kyte from Frome had been told she could no longer have herceptin because the drug was not considered effective once the cancer has spread.

But, after a meeting with West Mendip Primary Care Trust, Mrs Kyte has been told the drug will now be paid for.

This, she believes, will allow her to have more time with her family.

Two years ago Mrs Kyte was prescribed Herceptin after chemotherapy and radiotherapy failed to cure the disease.

Three weeks ago she was told that because it had spread to her brain she could no longer have the drug.

She then took the decision to place her house up for sale to fund the treatment herself.

Mrs Kyte told the BBC: "I am delighted and relieved to be put back on the drug because I have been on it for two years.

"It's been a bit of a week but you have to fight for what you want. Luckily they all got together and came to the right conclusion."
