Two village schools in Somerset have secured their long-term future by deciding to share activities and teaching expertise. Oake and Bradford Community Primary School and Nynehead Church of England Primary School have 56 and 32 pupils respectively and face falling numbers.
Somerset County Council is backing the move to "federate" - to create a single governing body for the two schools.
No opposition was made on the proposal during a consultation period.
Mrs Pam Scott, head teacher at Oake and Bradford Community School, said: "The teaching staff, board of governors and parents are delighted that the long term future of Oake and Bradford and Nynehead Schools is brighter because of the opportunities that federation will bring."
Anglea Lewis, head teacher of Nynehead School added: "We are looking forward to the exciting times and increased opportunities this will bring."
