No beaches failed in the West |
Beaches in the West of England have received solid marks in this year's good beach guide. The guide was organised by the Marine Conservation Society (MCS), which looked at water quality.
The MCS recommended Sand Bay, Brean, Dunster North West and South East and Porlock Weir.
No beaches failed the test, although nine were not monitored. Blue Anchor West moved up from a fail in 2004, to a basic pass this year.
The number of beaches doubled across the UK as a whole that failed the European water quality tests; a total of 52.
The MCS said it would not advise swimming at these beaches as infections such as gastroenteritis were more likely.
It blames last year's wet summer for an increase in pollution. The number of MCS-recommended beaches also fell.
