Councillor slams young drinkers
Drinks being served
Police insist the problem is under control in the town
A councillor is demanding more be done to tackle under-age drinking.

District councillor John Crockford- Hawley claims children as young as 11 are drinking alcohol in Weston- super-Mare, Somerset.

"On Wednesdays there is a growing problem of children from the age of 11 up to the age of 16 drinking alcohol before they go to a club," he said.

But Inspector Patrick McGowen said: "A small minority may be creating problems but it is a small proportion."

He went on: "We have had officers seize alcohol from children. In the future we are going to work alongside trading standards to reinforce the issue of selling alcohol to under-age children."
