Kite-boat plan to cross Atlantic
The boat
The 14ft kite powered boat has room for one person only
A Somerset explorer left Britain on Friday for a world's first expedition across the North Atlantic.

Dom's Mee's revolutionary kite boat was launched in July for the crossing which should begin in the next few days.

The ex-Royal Marine flew to Canada, and will wait for a weather window to allow him to set sail.

The team hope the crossing will take 60 days and finish on Exmouth beach in Devon. Mr Mee's friend, magician Uri Geller, named the boat Little Murka.

Mr Mee has said the 3,500 mile attempt will be his hardest challenge yet.

The craft has been entirely produced in the South West, using kites designed in the United States.

It is equipped with the latest satellite communication and navigational tools.

With kites measuring up to 10 square metres (108 sq ft) the boat will reach a maximum speed of eight knots.

Mr Mee will be sending emailed progress reports to his website.

The explorer is also planning a solo sailing expedition in 2007.
