The family of a man who was swept out to sea in Thailand as he helped rescue friends are co-ordinating a search operation for him. Piers Simon, 33, from Chilthorne Domer, near Yeovil, Somerset, was in a cafe on the island of Phi Phi when a wave caused by the Asian earthquake struck.
He helped friends on to the cafe roof before being washed away, and has not been seen since.
His brother Luke, 30, is co-ordinating the rescue operation with posters.
Their father Henry, 58, said a man registered under a phonetically similar name - Piuz Simmows - was treated at a hospital in Krabi and later discharged.
The man was registered as being British and 33-years-old.
"We are now working on this lead. We think he could be suffering from memory loss and be disorientated as if it is him he has not contacted home, he said.
"We may be clutching at straws, but in this situation we have to."
"We're trying to keep hoping and just praying all the time," said his mother Celia.
