Students' car on track for a win
BURT04 on a race track
BURT04 features innovations such as a carbon fibre chassis
A new single-seat racing car designed and built by students at the University of Bath will be unveiled at a launch ceremony on Wednesday.

The car, dubbed BURT04 (Bath University Racing Team), has been designed and built by 13 students on the Automotive Engineering Course.

The car's 600cc turbocharged engine can do 0-60mph in under four seconds, reaching top speeds of up to 120mph.

The University has entered the car into a students only competition.

Sixty teams

"It's a fantastic opportunity to be able to design and build a racing car, particularly as we get to drive it in competition against other students," said Tom Vincent, one of the Bath students.

In last year's competition, the team came second in the UK, finishing sixth overall.

"We're aiming to be the number one UK team this year, and are confident of finishing in the top five," said Tom.

BURT04 has a carbon fibre chassis and a turbocharged engine.

More than 60 teams of students from as far afield as Australia, USA, Germany and Japan will take part in the Formula Student competition at the Bruntingthorpe Proving Ground near Leicester from 9 until 11 July.
