Blood service seeks donations

The sessions run across the West
Special blood donations sessions take place in North Somerset, Bristol and Devon over the holiday weekend.

The National Blood Service says some donors find it hard to donate at regular sessions over the holidays.

Around 10,000 units of blood are needed in a single day in England and Wales, with only 6% of the eligible population actually giving blood.

Rachel Yandell, from the Service, said, "The demand never stops and it is vital that existing donors keep giving."

She added: "Donors are welcome to just turn up at their local session on the day.

"We would also like to remind donors that they can make an appointment to give blood over the Bank Holiday by calling the donor helpline."

The special sessions are running on Sunday at:

  • Apheresis Unit, Transfusion Centre, Southmead Road, Bristol.

  • Prince Hall, Princes Road, Clevedon, North Somerset.

  • Pollyfields Centre, Avon Road, Bideford, Devon.
