 Maps 'appeal to people's sense of adventure', says Bonhams |
Two rare atlases have been sold at an auction for more than �30,000. The World Described, an atlas produced by renowned cartographer Herman Moll in the 18th Century, fetched �18,213 at the Bonhams sale.
The other atlas, produced by the Blaue family in the 17th century, sold for �15,863. It features maps of England and Wales highlighted in gold leaf.
The auction in Bath on Monday was made up of more than 340 lots of books and manuscripts.
Gill Atkins, from Bonhams, said: "Antique maps and atlases are a growing area of interest for collectors.
"Many chart famous voyages or newly discovered and little-known lands and appeal to people's sense of adventure."
