World record for sax in the city
The saxophone players
The event was organised by Bath Sax School
A new world record for the largest saxophone ensemble was set at the opening of Bath's International Music Festival.

More than 500 saxophonists turned up for the "Big Blow Out" held in Royal Victoria Park on Friday evening.

The world record for the feat had been held by a group of 321 saxophonists from Tilburg in Holland.

The Bath musicians broke the record with their rendition of the tune Something Simple.

They followed it up with a specially-commissioned piece by Will Gregory called By the Numbers.

The opening night of the festival, which runs until 6 June, also included a carnival, a party in the park and fireworks.

Organisers said the record had been broken, but they will have to wait for official confirmation.
