Individuals living on the Mendips are being encouraged to erect their own wind turbine capable of powering a single house or small business. A meeting has been called on 27 April to set up a group of like-minded people to support each other through the process of installing a turbine.
Cllr Bill Mackay of Mendip District Council said: "We are keen to support renewable energy wherever appropriate."
The suitability of sites will be assessed through the planning process.
Cllr Mackey added: "Group action has proved very successful elsewhere in encouraging and supporting people to invest, and drawing in grant funding."
