The tourist attraction has been bought by Gerry Cottle |
Wookey Hole, one of Somerset's oldest tourist attractions, has been sold to a circus owner. The cave network, which includes a 19th century paper mill, mirror maze and penny pier arcade, has been bought by circus owner Gerry Cottle.
The attraction, near Wells, had been on the market for 15 months, with an asking price of 6.5m.
Mr Cottle's Electric Circus, Moscow State Circus, Chinese State Circus and stage show will continue to run.
Mr Cottle started out as a circus performer at the age of 15.
He turned his attentions to Wookey Hole after Runneymede Borough Council in Surrey refused him permission to expand his circus headquarters building at Addlestone Moor.
