Clampdown on underage drinkers
Police in Glastonbury are getting tough on under-age drinkers after a raft of complaints from local residents.

Officers say they will seize alcohol from under 18s drinking in public places, and arrest them if they refuse to comply.

Arrests will also be made for drunk and disorderly behaviour, and public order offences, say police.

Sergeant Titus Halliwell said: "We will be confiscating alcohol off under-age drinkers but we are also appealing for off licences and parents to be responsible.

"It is an offence to sell alcohol to young people aged under 18 and the onus is on the off licence to ask for official identification.

"We are urging parents not to give their children alcohol - it could end up with their child getting a criminal record."
