"Betsy" is 50 years old |
A Somerset farmer who rode his tractor around the UK to raise money for charity has made it into the record books. Terry Williams, from Bruton, rode more than 3,000 miles on his 50-year-old tractor in May.
Now, the three-week trek has made it into the Guinness Book of Records as the "longest journey by tractor".
Mr Williams is now planning to ride "Betsy" from Cape Town in South Africa to Wells in Somerset to raise money for African farmers.
The official Guiness statement reads: "Terry Williams (UK) covered 5111km (3176 miles) driving 'Betsy' a 1953 Harry Ferguson TEF20 tractor around the coastline of the UK between 3rd to 26th May 2003.
"The journey, a charitable venture called 'Tractor Challenge 2003' started and finished at Wincanton, Somerset UK."
Mr Williams stumbled across Betsy last year on a peat moor while driving a car which was forced off the road.
The HArry Fergusson tractor had been lying on its side for 15 years before it was found and restored by the Somerset farmer.
