Clowns from all over the world are expected to attend the event |
Comedy capers are coming to town as more than 130 clowns gather for a festival of the funny in Weston-super-Mare. Painted faces, red noses and big shoes are the order of the day as the Somerset resort hosts the International Clowns Festival.
The five-day event, which begins on Wednesday, will see performers from across the globe gather to celebrate the world of clowning.
Entertainers, both professional and amateur, will take part in masterclasses, discussions and shows.
Circus skills
Members of the public are also invited to participate, and a number of circus skills workshops are aimed specifically at children.
The festival is an annual event aimed at promoting links between clowns and clowning aficionados.
In previous years it has been held as far afield as the Azores, Russia and Mexico.
Clowns International, founded in 1947, is the world's oldest clown organisation.
It was set up to further the cause of clowning, promote clowns and foster contact between clowns and the public.
