Phone radiation measured at festival

More than 120,000 people are expected to attend the festival
Radiation levels from mobile phone masts are to be monitored at this year's Glastonbury Festival.

Two temporary masts have been set up on a hill overlooking the site at Worthy Farm, Pilton, to cope with demand for mobile phone signals during the three-day event.

Around 120,000 people are expected to attend the legendary festival, and it is thought many of them will bring mobile phones.

So scientists from Somerset County Council are being issued with equipment to check radiation levels from the masts.

Officers will also travel around the village with mobile noise monitoring equipment to ensure the noise levels do not exceed those permitted by the festival's licence.

Meanwhile, road safety officers will be at the event warning festival-goers not to drive while under the influence of drugs.
