It is thought the concert may be the tenors' last together in the UK |
The three tenors are to appear together in the UK for possibly the last time - at a free open-air concert later this summer. The concert, timed to coincide with the opening of Bath's multi-million pound thermal spa, will take place in the city's historic Royal Crescent on 7 August.
Opera legends Placido Domingo, Jose Carreras and Luciano Pavarotti will perform before a crowd of 7,000 people who will have to apply for tickets by ballot.
It is thought the event will be their last performance as a trio in Britain - Pavarotti announced earlier this year he plans to retire in 2005.
Great honour
The concert has been organised by YTL Utilities, owners of local utilities company Wessex Water.
Francis Yeoh, Managing director of YTL Corporation, said: "We are delighted to be able to host this event.
"It is a great honour to bring the Three Tenors to Bath, and we hope it will further enhance the city's reputation as an important centre for the performing arts."
Councillor Paul Crossley, leader of Bath and North East Somerset Council said: "This concert will be a wonderful boost for both the city and for tourism."
To enter the draw for tickets, music fans will have to complete and return a coupon available in local newspapers in the Wessex Water region.
