Morlands is a crucial part of the region's history

Hundreds of artefacts - including sheepskin slippers, toggles, drying machines and a wooden bath - have been found.

The 31 acre derelict site, where leather and sheepskin goods were produced for 150 years, is being redeveloped by the South West Regional Development Agency (RDA) and Mendip District Council.

They plan to provide space for small and medium businesses, as well as recreational and tourism facilities.

Gordon Woodend, head of operations for the RDA's Somerset Team, said: "Morlands forms a substantial part of Glastonbury's history so it is important to ensure that its historic artefacts, plans and maps are preserved.

"We have carefully catalogued the information we've found as by doing this we can ensure a complete historical account of the former tannery site."
