Club should survive cash crisis

Nottingham Rugby have said they should win their fight for financial survival thanks to a good cup run.

The club announced in November that it needed a 150,000 injection to help funding problems linked to the credit crunch.

Chairman Geoff Huckstep has announced that the club are now 100,000 towards their target.

He said success in the National Trophy, along with wage cuts and fundraising efforts had helped plug the gap.

'Tough few months'

The Green and Whites are through to the semi-finals of the National Trophy and have landed a home-tie against Leeds Carnegie.

Mr Huckstep said the revenue from that game, due to be held on 21/22 March, will mean the club can win its fight for survival.

"It's been a tough few months for everyone, and I cannot thank people enough for the way they've rallied round since we announced we were in danger of going out of business.

"Once we made our position clear, our attendances increased by 500 per game on average, and that made a huge difference.

"The problems won't go away by any means, and we are certain to show a loss on this season.

"But hopefully we can keep that to a minimum - so we can put together the playing squad that we want for next year, as we take our place in the newly-formed Championship."

If Nottingham get through the semi-final they will make their first ever appearance at Twickenham.
