Peanut trial jury is discharged

The trial of a Nottingham man accused of scattering peanuts around a food factory has been halted after the jury failed to reach a verdict.

Paul Bentley, of Listowel Crescent, Clifton, allegedly sabotaged the Pork Farms plant after he was disciplined for having a "girlie" calendar.

The 42-year-old, denied possessing material for contamination and a second count of threatening to kill his boss.

The case will be heard again at Nottingham Crown Court on 24 February.

The Crown Prosecution Service will then decide if it wants to pursue a retrial.

Bentley cost the company 1.2m after it had to halt production and clean up the nuts in July 2007, the court was told.

Pork Farms provides foods to Marks & Spencer and Sainsbury's from its Riverside Bakery.
