Old gold teeth fight the crunch

Gold advert
The original advert was placed in 1934

A Nottingham jeweller has taken out an advert offering to buy old gold - including any gold false teeth.

In a time of economic uncertainty, the price of gold continues to be strong and family-run jewellers Melville Kemp said people can earn some extra cash.

Mr Kemp's wife Kate said the advert was based on one taken out by her father-in-law in 1934.

Mrs Kemp said one lady had misunderstood the advert and brought in a set of dentures to sell.

"Gold is at a fairly high price at the moment so it is a chance for people to earn some extra money," said Mrs Kemp.

"Usually if a lady breaks a gold necklace, she might put it away but this way she could bring it in and sell it.

"You never know, there may be someone with a hoard of gold, false teeth somewhere."

Melville Kemp is offering between 2.50 and 3.50 per gram of nine carat gold, depending on the daily rate - which can fluctuate.

So far no-one has brought any false teeth containing gold to the shop.

Gold was trading at more than $900 an ounce in early September.
