The Pork Farms site was evacuated after the leak |
Workers have been evacuated from a pork pie plant on an industrial estate after an ammonia leak. Fire crews were called to the Pork Farms site on Queen's Drive in Nottingham on Wednesday morning.
Environmental health officers were also sent to the property along with a hazardous materials expert.
A Nottinghamshire Fire and Rescue spokeswoman said the situation was under control and crews were scaling down the operation.
The leak is thought to have been caused by a component failure and Pork Farms said that there was no risk to public or employee safety.
The firm said in a statement: "The safety of our staff is paramount and employees will not be allowed on site at any point until the incident has been fully investigated and conditions confirmed by the fire and health and safety services as completely safe to enable a return to work."
There have been no reports of injuries.
