The first fine for ignoring an alcohol exclusion zone in Nottingham provides a "visible deterrent", police have said. The zone came into force last year after residents and shopkeepers in Hyson Green complained about an increase anti-social behaviour.
Richard Humphries, of Bentinck Road, Hyson Green, received a 12-month conditional discharge and 35 fine after ignoring a number of warnings.
Officers said they hoped the action would make life easier in the area.
Alcohol confiscated
Ch Insp Steve Cooper, based at Radford Road, said: "We listen to local people's concerns and take action wherever possible.
"Having the powers to confiscate alcohol, and arrest people who do not comply with the order, despite several warnings, provides a visible deterrent.
"The first successful prosecution should send out a clear message to anyone thinking of drinking in the designated area, that we are taking a zero tolerance approach, and people should heed the warnings or face arrest."
The order, which restricts drinking in the area bordered by Craven Road, Birkin Avenue, Bentinck Road, Noel Street and Beaconsfield Street, allows officers to confiscate alcohol from anyone seen drinking in the street, removing the container and dispose of its contents.
They are also given powers to take away unopened containers believed to contain alcohol and arrest the owner of it if they refuse to comply.
