Unpaid child support totals 34m
Jedda Owusu
Jedda Owusu says her partner still owes 50,000 in child maintenance
A campaign to reclaim 34m in unpaid child maintenance in Nottingham has been started by the Child Support Agency (CSA).

The CSA said there are 9,300 absentee parents who refuse to support their children in the city.

Spokesman Richard Percy said the agency would be using bailiffs and taking money from pay packets.

He added the CSA could apply to take away a parent's driving licence and property, if payment is refused.

Disadvantaged children

Mr Percy, said: "The message to the people of Nottingham is get in touch with the Child Support Agency.

"This is about money for children and if you don't get in touch with us we will get in touch with you."

Jedda Owusu, who lives in Nottingham claims her partner still owes 50,000 in maintenance for her two children.

She said: "In 1993 when I approached the agency I thought that they were going to locate the absent father naturally to receive maintenance payments.

"However four years later, I hired a private detective and actually found the father within 24 hours.

"The CSA in the past has obviously let down the children of this country. The children are our future and it is sad to see the poverty brought across the whole country."
