The force wants to bring in another 15 headcams |
Nottinghamshire Police want to extend a "headcam" trial claiming it is proving an effective tool in fighting crime. Eight cameras - which are worn on a head strap at eye level - are currently being used by officers in the Mansfield and Ashfield areas of the county.
The cameras, costing 500 each, capture exactly what officers see and hear. Chief Inspector John Eyre said they were working well.
Bosses now want to bring in another 15 headcams for use in the area.

"We have been using them in Mansfield town centre for about four weeks now, predominantly on late-night patrols on Fridays and Saturdays," said Ch Insp Eyre.
"Initially there were some technical difficulties but these have now been resolved and the headcams are proving to be an extremely effective tool for the officers out there on the street."
The headcams come with a digital recorder that attaches to a belt. It records the footage digitally and contains a built-in screen for reviewing and showing footage.
All footage and information can then be downloaded on to a computer, logged and stored.
"The ability to capture video evidence quickly and efficiently is of huge benefit and because the device is small and hands-free, it doesn't impact on the officer's ability to do the job," Ch Insp Eyre said.
