MP backs redundant brewery staff

More than 100 staff currently work at the Kimberley site
A Nottinghamshire MP says he will fight for the rights of 80 workers at the county's last remaining large-scale brewery, whose jobs are under threat.

Broxtowe MP Nick Palmer is meeting with bosses at Suffolk-based Greene King, which recently bought Nottingham's Hardys and Hanson brewery.

The firm has decided to move brewing operations to Bury St Edmunds.

Mr Palmer wants to make sure staff receive maximum possible support in finding new work.

"I think they will be keen to find ways of reducing the criticism that many local people have expressed," Mr Palmer said.

"I want to encourage them to use Kimberley as a distribution base for their expansion in the Midlands and the North - that could mean more jobs in the medium and long term."

Greene King bought the Kimberley-based brewery and more than 200 East Midlands pubs in a 270m deal in September.

The company has confirmed cellar and distribution services will continue at the Kimberley site.
