Record cocaine seizure at airport
Drugs with a street value estimated at 2m have been seized at Nottingham East Midlands Airport.

Customs officers said it was the largest amount of cocaine ever found at the airport.

Nearly 50 kgs of the Class A drug had been concealed in the shafts of golf clubs and officers said their discovery would help deter the smugglers.

It is the third major drugs haul this month with one consignment being discovered in a set of encyclopaedias.

Bob Gaiger, of Customs & Excise, said: "This has been a very significant find for customs - 50 kg is a huge amount of Class A drugs.

"It sends out a very clear message to drug smugglers that Nottingham East Midlands Airport is not a soft touch.

"Customs officers here are working hard and, as this haul demonstrates, getting good results."
