Town told of emergency measures
Advice explaining what people should do if there is a major emergency is being sent out to homes and businesses in a Derbyshire town.

Emergency planners have split Chesterfield into 10 evacuation zones to make it easier to isolate and control incidents.

A map of the zones has been included in the leaflet and people are being urged to check which zone they are in.

Council chiefs said there was no specific threat to the town.

'Well-informed'

Councillor Joyce Sanders, Derbyshire County Council's cabinet member for community safety services, said: "People need not panic - this is not a reaction to the London bombings or a specific threat to Chesterfield.

"Emergency planning has always existed behind the scenes and affects us all - regardless of where we live and work - and plans to distribute this leaflet have been in place for some time."

She added: "Thankfully major incidents don't arise often but if and when they do we want people to be prepared and well-informed."

The leaflet has been produced by the county council, Chesterfield Borough Council and Derbyshire Police.
