A state-of-the-art treatment centre for people with kidney problems is opening at Nottingham City Hospital on Monday. The �8.1m centre has operating theatres, clinics, counselling rooms and a suite for treating kidney stones with shock waves.
The old facilities were "cramped, out-dated and inappropriate" according to hospital staff.
The new Nottingham Urology Centre stands between the hospital's maternity unit and the outpatients department.
Duncan Harriss, clinical director for urology services, said: "The old building was really quite poor, but this new centre is absolutely amazing.
"Patients who have been to the old department will hardly believe the difference." An official opening ceremony for the new facilities is planned for the end of August and the old urology department will be demolished.
