Danielle was walking home when she was shot |
One of two men accused of murdering teenager Danielle Beccan has decided not to give evidence at his trial. Mark Kelly, 20, of Wilford Grove, The Meadows, Nottingham, denies killing the teenager in St Ann's as she walked home from a fair last October. Timothy Spencer QC told Birmingham Crown Court: "On behalf of Mark Kelly, we call no evidence." Both Mr Kelly and his co-defendant Junior Andrews, 24, of no fixed address, deny murder. Asked by trial judge Mr Justice Butterfield whether Kelly understood the jury could make inferences from his decision, Mr Spencer added: "He has been so advised." Mr Andrews testified earlier in the trial, saying that the first he heard of the shooting was on a news bulletin. Birmingham Crown Court has heard Mr Andrews, and Mr Kelly - who is alleged to have been driving the car - were members of a local street gang from the Meadows. Police say there is a history of rivalry between gangs from the Meadows and St Ann's.
Born in Northampton, Mr Andrews lived in St Ann's, Nottingham, until he was 13, before moving to The Meadows. The trial continues.
