Police are looking for a man who beat a woman with a pistol, before throwing her into a road and stealing her car. The 31-year-old woman and her friend got into a car near Ilkeston Road health centre in Radford, Nottingham.
A balaclava-wearing man threatened her with a handgun and told her to get out. When she refused he used the gun to hit her in the face and on the arms.
He pulled her from the car and threw her into the path of traffic, forcing other vehicles to stop, police said.
The man drove off towards the city in her metallic blue VW Golf.
He was described as black and in his early 20s, wearing a dark-coloured jacket and trousers.
The woman was left shaken and with cuts and bruises.
Police are appealing for witnesses to the attack at about 1915 GMT on 21 February.
