A fourth person charged in connection with the death of Nottingham jeweller Marian Bates has appeared in court.

Lisa Unwin, 23, of Raymede Drive, Bestwood, is accused of conspiracy to pervert the course of justice in connection with the death of Mrs Bates.

She appeared at Wolverhampton Crown Court alongside Peter Williams, 18, of no fixed address, who has pleaded not guilty to the 64-year-old's murder.

Ms Unwin did not enter a plea at the hearing on Wednesday.

Bail release

Mr Williams is also accused of causing grievous bodily harm to her husband Victor and possessing a firearm with intent.

Also in the dock were Craig Martin Moran, 22, of Bestwood, and Dean Robert Betton, 23, of Broxtowe, who are charged with conspiracy to rob the store.

The three men all pleaded not guilty to the charges at an earlier hearing.

Mrs Bates was shot dead during a robbery at her jewellery shop, the Time Centre, in Front Street, Arnold, on 30 September, 2003.

The four appeared for legal submissions before High Court judge Mr Justice Gibbs, who remanded Williams, Moran and Betton back into custody, while Unwin was released on bail.

A further hearing is due to take place on 7 February before the trial, which is expected to be held later next month.
