New equipment is in use at the Nottingham Breast Institute
New technology at a Nottingham hospital is helping breast cancer to be diagnosed more quickly.

The new mammography equipment is in use at the Nottingham Breast Institute.

It is among the first places in the country to install the system. It means x-rays can be viewed and examined in detail straight away.

Dr Robin Wilson, from the institute, said there was no reason for people to worry about the existing service which he said was "extraordinarily good".

The new scheme was not correcting a problem, he said, but it meant information could be processed more quickly.

The institute sees 35,000 patients a year at the 5m centre, which opened in September 2003.
