Police to get electric stun guns
Taser guns can fire darts up to 21ft to disable suspects
Police officers in Nottinghamshire will be carrying stun guns within 5 months.

The Tasers deliver an electric shock which causes immediate pain and temporarily incapacitates its victim.

The weapons have been criticised by human rights campaigners who claim they can cause heart attacks and are sometimes used inappropriately.

The police are introducing Tasers in October, saying they provide a less dangerous way to deal with people wielding knives or machetes.

Nottinghamshire Police have been waiting for a new model to be approved by the Home Office, before pressing ahead with its introduction.

Only specially trained firearms officers will get one.

Lincolnshire Police completed a successful trial of the devices last year.
