Plug is pulled on concert venue
Concerts at a country house on the Notts-Leics border have been cancelled until further notice.

Rushcliffe Borough council said the ageing electrical system at Stanford Hall is not up to scratch. It was installed in 1935.

Brian Woolley, an events organiser, said the decision has caused problems.

But the council said Stanford Hall's licence ran out in February 2004 and its renewal will depend on the owners, Raynsway, rewiring the property.

Disappointed public

One of the concerts affected is a performance by organist Byron Jones scheduled for this week.

Brian Woolley said: "We have over 200 people coming on Wednesday.

"The first thing to do was to cancel the artist, then set about contacting as many people as we could - we can't contact everyone as we've no contact points for them.

"There'll be a number of people who turn up on speck, as happens at every concert."
