A service is to be held in a Nottinghamshire village for the 60th anniversary of a war-time plane crash which shook the community. A Halifax bomber was returning from an attack on rocket sites in northern France when it crashed at Farnsfield.
The seven-man crew was trying to get back to base, but the plane came down in the Nottinghamshire countryside.
Ten years ago a memorial stone was set on the crash site, surrounded by seven oak trees.
There are also two red maples, the national tree of Canada, because the bomb aimer came from Ontario.
There will be a service to mark the 60th anniversary of the crash on Tuesday night.
The bomber MZ519-LKU crashed on 6 July, 1944.
The plane was seen with an engine fire as it passed Nottingham and crashed near Farnsfield at 1025 BST.
