Police get new 'eyes in the sky'
Police in the East Midlands are launching their latest weapon against crime - a state of the art helicopter.

The new aircraft will be used jointly by both the Nottinghamshire and Derbyshire forces.

The 3m helicopter flies at 150 miles an hour - much faster than the old one - and can reach any point in the two counties within minutes.

It can stay in the air for longer than the previous model and is also fitted with the latest camera equipment.

The North Midlands Helicopter Support Unit hopes the new addition will lead to more arrests by helping police with pursuits on the ground.

It will also be called into action when the air ambulance is unavailable to lift injured patients to casualty.
